Between last post and Jordan

Two weeks ago we had two field trip days in Jerusalem. One day was spent in the Jewish Quarter and the other in the Christian Quarter. In the Jewish Quarter we went through a couple of basement museums that date back to the destruction in 70 AD. These museums are built on top of the ruins from houses that were destroyed by the Romans. After Israel won back the Jewish Quarter in the War of 1967, they excavated the ruins and then built the present city on top, preserving what they could. We also spent quite a bit of time to the south of the Temple Mount. There are stairs there cut into bedrock that led up to the temple. Imagine Christ coming out of the temple and putting clay on the blind man's eyes then sending him farther south down the road to the Pool of Siloam. The Christian Quarter field trip consisted of touring many of the various Christian churches built in the Old City. Highlights were a huge painting of Christ carrying the cross in a Russian Orthodox chapel, and the Church of the Holy Seplechure--just seeing so many people from all walks of life gathered to worship Christ.
